What does US hours only mean, compared with overlap?

An overlap model keeps an offshore team on its local day and shares a few hours at one edge of yours. US hours only means the person's working day is your working day, so standups, code review, customer calls and handoffs happen live instead of overnight.

How many overlap hours do offshore teams usually give you?

Usually a few. Offshore vendors plan around a short shared window and push the rest of the day to async handoffs. Nearshore vendors make the same point from the other side: Ryz Labs lists India and Philippines overlap with a US workday as "None, unless someone works nights" (Ryz Labs, updated October 2026), and Ideaware describes offshore overlap as "A few hours at best" (Ideaware, updated Oct 15, 2026).

With a US-hours seat there is no window to protect. The person works your day, so a blocker raised mid-afternoon can be worked through that afternoon.

What does a US-hours shift look like in India or the Philippines?

India runs on IST (UTC+5:30) and the Philippines on PHT (UTC+8), and neither country uses daylight saving. Across the main US time zones, a 9:00am to 5:00pm US workday falls between about 6:30pm and 6:30am in India and between 9:00pm and 9:00am the next morning in Manila, depending on your zone and the time of year.
